The Gerry Weber Open is one of five grass court tournaments on the ATP World Tour calendar, and provides players with their first chance to play on the surface in the two-week lead-up to Wimbledon. The Gerry Weber Open has crowned four German winners since the inaugural event in 1993: Michael Stich (1994), Nicolas Kiefer (1999), David Prinosil (2000) and Tommy Haas (2009).

German wild card Tommy Haas stunned ATP World Tour No. 4 Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 in the final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle to end a title drought of more than two years. The Hamburg native is the fourth German player to capture the Gerry Weber Open title in the tournament’s 17-year history, joining Michael Stich (1994), Nicolas Kiefer (1999) and David Prinosil (2000).
