Lone Star State Hosts US Men's Clay Court Championship
The US Men's Clay Court Championship began in 1910 in Omaha with an idea of encouraging the establishment of more clay courts in the West. Since then, the tournament has been contested in numerous cities across the United States, before settling in its current location of Houston in 2001. It is the only ATP World Tour event in the U.S. contested on clay.

Nishikori Reaches Second Final - Kei Nishikori rose to No. 48 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings after reaching his second ATP World Tour final. He beat World No. 11 Mardy Fish in the quarter-finals.

Early Exit For Querrey - World No. 20 Sam Querrey made his third opening round exit (l. to Sweeting) in four appearances at Houston. In 2010, the American lost to Juan Ignacio Chela in the final.

Fish Loses In QFs - Top American Mardy Fish made a quarter-final exit (l. to Nishikori) on his ninth tournament appearance. In 2006, the Tampa resident beat Jurgen Melzer for the title.

Sweeting Joins Winners' Circle
In his debut appearance in an ATP World Tour final, wild card Ryan Sweeting prevailed against No. 6 seed Kei Nishikori 6-4, 7-6(3) to clinch the title at the US Men's Clay Court Championship. Sweeting became the first U.S. champion at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament since Mardy Fish in 2006 after American players finished runners-up each of the past three years. He also became the fifth first-time winner on the ATP World Tour this season.
