Kei Cracks Top 10 - After reaching his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final in Madrid, Kei Nishikori became the first Japanese man to break into the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Wawrinka Stunned - 2013 runner-up Stanislas Wawrinka was stunned in his opening second-round match by rising star Dominic Thiem, who beat the Australian Open champion in three sets.

Epic Contest - David Ferrer and Kei Nishikori played the longest match of the tournament at 2hr. 56min. in the semi-finals. It was the second time Ferrer had fallen at the semi-final stage in Madrid.

Nadal Beats Nishikori 
World No. 1 Rafael Nadal captured his 27th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title as he fought back from a set and a break down against Kei Nishikori to win the final. The Spaniard had turned the match around to lead 2-6, 6-4, 3-0 when Nishikori was forced to retire with a back injury. The Spaniard became the first player to win four Madrid titles, adding to his victories in 2005, 2010 and 2013.
