Tipsarevic Ousted - Second seed Janko Tipsarevic was bundled out in the opening round by France’s Michael Llodra, who went onto reach the semi-finals. Tipsarevic also fell in the first round on his 2007 debut.

Paire Impresses - Benoit Paire rose to a career-high World No. 38 after reaching his second ATP World Tour final. The Frenchman also finished runner-up at the Serbia Open in 2012 (l. to Seppi).
 Gael Monfils
Monfils Loses French Contest - Former World No. 7 Gael Monfils lost an all-French second-round contest with eventual winner Gasquet. It was the first time in his four event appearances Monfils did not reach the final.

Gasquet Enjoying Best Start 
Richard Gasquet became the first two-time ATP World Tour titlist of the season as he won the Montpellier final with victory over Benoit Paire. Having also won the Doha trophy, Gasquet improved to 14-1 in 2013. “I realise this is my best season start ever and I just want to keep going," said Gasquet.
