Montpellier Prospers In European February Indoor Season
Montpellier, one of the fastest-growing cities in France over the past 25 years, hosted its first ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in late October of 2010. The indoor hard court event, which had relocated from Lyon, was then played from 30 January in 2012 in a multi-purpose venue called the ARENA, which has a total capacity of 14,000 and seating for 7,500 during the tournament.

Monfils Denied Title Defence - Monfils had won the 2010 edition of the Open Sud de France and reached the final again after saving match point against Gilles Simon in the SF. He dropped to a 4-13 finals record.

Rufin Surprises Lopez - French wild card Guillaume Rufin overcame a gap of 194 places in the South African Airways ATP Rankings to upset fifth-seeded Feliciano Lopez in the second round. He lost to Simon in the quarters.

French Doubles Success - Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin captured their first ATP World Tour title together with a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory over Jamie Murray and Paul Hanley in the doubles final.

Berdych Tops Monfils
Top seed Tomas Berdych defeated third-seeded Gael Monfils 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and five minutes to win the Open Sud de France title in Montpellier. The seventh-ranked Berdych improved his final record to 7-6, winning his first indoor title since lifting the BNP Paribas Masters trophy in 2005. "It was a great week.
