Feel The History In Newport

The first U.S. National Lawn Tennis Championship was played in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1881 on the now legendary grass courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum. That tournament evolved into the US Open. The Hall of Fame Tennis Championships remains the only professional tournament played on grass in North America.

Hewitt Back In Form - Former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt reached his first ATP World Tour final in more than two years. The Australian returned to form after being sidelined for four months due to toe surgery.

Becker Upsets Raonic - Germany’s Benjamin Becker upset third-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets in the second round. Becker went onto lose in the quarter-finals to Ryan Harrison.

Ram Makes Run - American Rajeev Ram reached his first ATP World Tour semi-final of the season (l. to Hewitt). The 28 year old won the Newport singles (d. Querrey) and doubles (w/ Kerr) titles in 2009.

Isner Retains Title
Top-seeded American John Isner successfully defended his grass-court title in Newport with a 7-6(1), 6-4 victory over former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt. Isner extended the American title streak at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament to four straight years. In 2011, he had broken the “Casino Curse” by becoming the first top seed to win the title since the inaugural edition in 1976.
