Update: Play resumed just before 5 p.m. PT / 1 a.m. CET

After three holds opened their Saturday BNP Paribas Open semi-final showdown, light rain forced Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner off the court in Indian Wells.

With the No. 2 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings on the line, Sinner led 2-1 with 17 minutes on the match clock before a three-hour stoppage. Neither man faced a break point in the opening exchanges, though Alcaraz battled through deuce to hold in his first service game.

The young rivals are contesting their eighth Lexus ATP Head2Head matchup, with Sinner leading the series 4-3. The Italian is seeking a measure of Indian Wells revenge after Alcaraz beat him in last year's semi-finals en route to the title.

Both Alcaraz and Sinner enter this semi-final encounter on winning streaks. Sinner aims to extend his 19-match winning run, including a perfect 16-0 record this season, while Alcaraz is on a 10-match winning streak at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

After the initial stoppage, the players returned to court and warmed up after a short delay, but more rain sent them back to the locker room before the skies eventually cleared.
