Second year of 'fantastic initiative' ATP Business Education Programme underway

The second year of the ATP Business Education Programme is underway after players partaking in the special educational initiative, created in collaboration with La Liga, gathered in Miami for a series of sessions.

This year’s programme will include 24 hours of material, including in-person sessions in Miami and Madrid as well as virtual meetings. Dusan Lajovic, who is on the ATP Player Advisory Council, is one of 19 players participating.

“I signed up to get more insight into sports governance and also being on the council I felt it could be of value to get more knowledge on the business side of sport as well,” Lajovic said. “I enjoyed the speakers and part of it being interactive and having a workshop, I think it's a great opportunity for players to get that experience of teamwork that is similar to a classroom.”

In Miami, players enjoyed nine hours of sessions across two days, with speakers from within the tennis community as well as outside of it, including guests from the Miami Heat, Inter Miami CF, FIFA and Goldman Sachs.

There are three main objectives for the programme: Help the athletes better understand the sports industry, identify and connect with management disciplines and inspire professional development.

ATP Player Advisory Council member Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela said: “The ATP Business Education Programme is a fantastic initiative that provides players with valuable tools beyond the tennis court. It offers a unique opportunity to learn from industry leaders and explore new areas of interest within sports.

“Personally, as I've become more involved in player participation through the players' Challenger Panel and now the Player Advisory Council, I've gained a deeper understanding of the sport from various perspectives. I believe this knowledge will enable me to have a positive impact on players and tennis as a whole.”

Players participating in the programme this year are: Marcelo Arevalo, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Taro Daniel, Sadio Doumbia, Marton Fucsovics, Yannick Hanfmann, Austin Krajicek, Patrick Kypson, Dusan Lajovic, Nathaniel Lammons, Fabrice Martin, Pedro Martinez, Andres Molteni, Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, Aldin Setkic, Franko Skugor, Andrea Vavassori and Jan Zielinski.
