Switzerland's Roger Federer eats pizza with ball kids after defeating Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro in their final match in the Swiss Indoors ATP 500 in Basel.

Federer Reigns Supreme With Title & Pizza

Swiss great brings back tradition after defeating del Potro for title

Once a ball boy, always a ball boy and in bringing back tradition, Roger Federer has again come up with the goods at his hometown event in Basel – pizzas. After missing last year’s Swiss Indoors Basel through injury, the 36 year old returned to capture the title for the eighth time on Sunday with a three-set triumph over Juan Martin del Potro.

And as he had done in each of the 11 years he has made the final in Basel, the Swiss threw a post-match pizza party for all the ball boys and girls. It’s a nod to the two years he spent as a ball boy in Basel, where he recalls riding a bike from home to the tournament venue as an 11 year old. Federer was a ball boy for the Michael Stich v Stefan Edberg final in 1993.

Federer also presented the ballkids with a medal on court soon after defeating Juan Martin del Potro to claim his eighth Basel title, which marked his 95th career crown.
