Federer Reigns Supreme With Title & Pizza
Once a ball boy, always a ball boy and in bringing back tradition, Roger Federer has again come up with the goods at his hometown event in Basel – pizzas. After missing last year’s Swiss Indoors Basel through injury, the 36 year old returned to capture the title for the eighth time on Sunday with a three-set triumph over Juan Martin del Potro.
And as he had done in each of the 11 years he has made the final in Basel, the Swiss threw a post-match pizza party for all the ball boys and girls. It’s a nod to the two years he spent as a ball boy in Basel, where he recalls riding a bike from home to the tournament venue as an 11 year old. Federer was a ball boy for the Michael Stich v Stefan Edberg final in 1993.
Federer also presented the ballkids with a medal on court soon after defeating Juan Martin del Potro to claim his eighth Basel title, which marked his 95th career crown.
