    Attended Pepperdine University in 1990-91 and was No. 1 and 2 on the
    team. Earned all-American singles honors both years as he finished No. 27 in
    1990 and No. 19 the following year. Studied economics.

    Qualified in his first Grand Slam tournament at the U.S. Open in 1992,
    only to lose a five-set match to Jeff Tarango in the first round.
