  • Married a former airline stewardess, Sophia, having met in Tokyo, Japan. The couple have two children, Georgina and Claudia... His father, Frank, a retired fishmonger, and mother, Lavina, raised five children, including James, Richard, David and Fiona. Great, great grandmother was leader of the first trade union and part of the suffragette movement... Began playing tennis aged nine and went on to win under-12 national championships in 1975, prior to be awarded a scholarship to Millfield School in Street, Somerset. Also runner-up at under-18 nationals in 1981... He attended Seminole (Fla.) Junior College where he roomed with Mikael Pernfors and turned professional in 1986, shortly after completing a marketing degree at Wichita State University in Kansas... Coached by former ATP pro Roger Taylor, he made his ATP singles debut at 1986 Queen�s Club where he made a third round exit (l. to Annacone). He went on to lose a 6-0 deciding set in the Wimbledon second round (l. to Wilander)... He attained a career-high No. 80 singles ranking (13 June 1988)... A former British No. 1 he won three ATP doubles titles at 1988 Seoul (w/Saad), 1988 Rye Brook (w/Wilkison) and 1990 Adelaide (w/Odizor) and was runner-up at 1988 Canada (w/Wilkison) and 1991 Manchester (w/ Brown). Also combined with ex-college teammate Roberto Saad to reach the 1988 Australian Open semi-finals (l. to Bates-Lundgren). The duo outlasted Grant Connell-Glenn Michibata 19-17 in a fifth set quarter-final... Reached one ATP singles final at 1988 Seoul (l. to Goldie)... He earned a career-high $82,700 in 1988... He attained a career-high doubles ranking of No. 45 (19 December 1988)... Appeared at the 1987-88, 1991 Australian Open (0-3 record), 1986-92 Wimbledon (2-7 record) and the 1987-88, 1991 US Open (3-3 record). Reached the 1987 US Open third round (l. to Becker)... Was a member of the Great Britain�s Davis Cup squad from 1986-1990 (3-10 record), made his debut against Australia in a World Group quarter-final tie at Wimbledon... Was also a member of Great Britain�s tennis team at 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games... Retired in 1992 and took up a television career as a tennis, golf presenter and commentator for BSkyB, alongside Sue Barker... Joined ITV in September 2000 and continues to present breakfast show GMTV... He has commented on every Wimbledon men�s singles final since 2003, gaining a reputation as an excellent commentator and presenter...
