  • A former British No. 1 who retired in 1994 and has since become a television commentator for BSkyB (1995-2007) and BBC (1995-present) at the Grand Slams... As a promising junior from Norwich, won under-12 British Championships in 1980 and reached the under-16 and under-18 semi-finals in 1984 and 1986. Also reached the junior Wimbledon quarter-finals in 1986... Turned pro in 1987... On ATP Challenger Tour, won one singles title at 1993 Bristol and one doubles title at 1994 Bronx (w/Wahlgren)... Once coached by Nick Carr... Was the last British wild card to reach Queen�s Club quarter-finals in 1989 (l. to van Rensburg), en route to a career-high singles ranking of No. 126 (2 October 1989)... Underwent right knee surgery in July 1990 to repair ligament damage sustained during practice session. He did not return until June 1991... Made three appearances at Australian Open (1988-89, 1993)... Also made seven singles appearances at Wimbledon (1987-90, 1992-94), highlighted by 9-7 loss in fifth set to Goran Ivanisevic in 1993 second round. Missed one match point in fifth set, Ivanisevic serving a second serve ace... Finished runner-up at 1993 British Championships (l. to Bates)... Improved from No. 253 to a year-end best No. 163 in 1993...
