  • Dibbs' gritty baseline style earned him plenty of accolades and prize money, as well as 22 career singles titles...He was born in Brooklyn, but his family moved to Miami when he was a youngster. There, he used to hustle matches from unsuspecting victims on the public courts. The surface was clay, and his affection for the slow stuff stayed with him throughout his playing career...He did, however, compile a creditable record both indoors and on cement; he was the runner-up at the WCT Dallas Finals in 1978, and was a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Open in 1979.

Dibbs has always been a locker room comedian, with a sense of humor sometimes blue and sometimes biting, but always entertaining...Dibbs also has a bit of "Walter Mitty" in him... Attended a tryout camp for the NFL's Miami Dolphins.

Always a betting man, in recent years, Eddie has become the owner of a couple of thoroughbreds. So, the next step was to try and ride one. His prescription for jockeyhood? "Just hold on as tight as you can until those things get tired of running."

Residence: North Miami Beach, Florida; Wife, Jo.
