Won his first career Grand Prix title at Athens (d. Oresar) in 1988 and
later won at Vienna, defeating countryman Thomas Muster. Along the way he
defeated Nystrom, Casal, Chesnokov and Svensson.
A member of Austrian's Davis Cup team since 1987. He posted a 4-0 mark
in singles in '88, helping his country to the 1989 World Group.
Lost in the first round at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games (l. Edberg).
The 1985-86 Austrian Indoor champion and two-time Orange Bowl winner in
1984-85.
Began playing tennis at age 6.
Turned pro fulltime in 1986 when he finished No. 42 on the ATP computer
after a ranking of No. 299 in 1985.
Earned a career-high $276,404, compiled a 38-23 match record and ranked
a year-end best No. 25 in 1989, his third top 50 finish in four years.
