Martin Lee was a junior World No. 1, who won the 1995 junior Wimbledon doubles and finished runner-up at the 1996 junior Australian Open (both times w/Trotman). He won three junior titles from six finals, finishing 1995 at No. 3 in singles and No. 7 in doubles rankings... Under the guidance of his father, Brian, a 6�3� tennis coach, he started playing tennis at the age of five... Lived and trained at Bisham Abbey, under the guidance of Ian Barclay, for six years... A Sussex county player, he made his ATP singles debut at 1996 Queen�s Club... Reached one ATP singles final in June 2001 at Newport d. Blake in SFs, l. to Godwin in final)... Qualified for one ATP Masters Series event at Montreal in July 2001 (l. to Ulihrach in 1st Rd), the year he earned a career-high $129,073 and finished the year at No. 107 in singles rankings... Appeared at Wimbledon eight times (1997-2003, 2006), reaching the second round on four occasions (1997, 2000-01, 2006). Also appeared at 2001 US Open, 2002 Australian Open and Roland Garros... Achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 94 (11 March 2002), joining Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski in the Top 100. First time three British players ranked in the Top 100 for 23 years... On ATP Challenger Tour finished singles runner-up at three tournaments, including 2000-Gramado (l. to Simoni), 2000-Manchester (l. to Navarra) and 2001-Hamilton (l. to Rehnquist). He won four ATP Challenger Tour doubles trophies at 2003-Manchester (w/Parmar), 2005-Nottingham (w/Goodall), 2006-Nottingham (w/Marray), 2006-Bronx (w/Levy) and finished runner-up at 1999-Lucknow 2, Belo Horizonte, Manchester (all w/Delgado), 2000-Belo Horizonte (w/Delgado), 2001-Hull (w/Cowan)... He made his Davis Cup debut for Great Britain against Portugal at Birmingham in April 2001 and played two further ties as a singles player (2-1 record)... Considered grass and hard as his favourite surfaces and his forehand as his best shot... A big fan of Millwall Football Club, has the team�s emblem as a tattoo on his left shoulder... Was coached by David Sammel... Retired November 2006, aged 28, after failing to sufficiently recover from three knee operations (first in January 2000, second in November 2002) and suffered groin injuries in the latter years of his career.
