Reached his first singles final since 1985 when he lost to Tim Mayotte at Brisbane in October 1988. A three-time All-American at the Univ. of California-Berkeley (1977-78-79) where he graduated with a BA in Economics. Turned pro in 1980. Enjoys surfing when a beach is within reach. Extremely intelligent and articulate, Marty likes to keep himself informed on the issues, both in the world and in his profession. Elected to the ATP Board of Directors, June 1987 and to the Men's Tennis Council in November 1988. Compiled a 20-25 match record, earned a career-high $168,623 and ranked No. 95 on the ATP computer in 1988, his sixth straight top 100 finish. After 12 years on tour, retired in 1991 having seven top 100 year-end finishes, reaching a career high 47 in 1985. An original member of the ATP Tour's Board of Directors in 1990, Davis went on to several positions within the ATP (Director of Player Services, manager of the ATP Tour Club and Director of Licensing) following his playing days. Wife Jill and two sons, Taylor and Kyle. Inducted into his alma mater's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 along with long-time doubles partner Chris Dunk. Currently men's tennis coach at University of California at Santa Barbara where he was Big West Coach of the Year in 2003.
