Began playing tennis at age seven. Parents are both teachers and middle child in family of three (one sis- ter and one brother). One of the top juniors in the world in 1995, reaching the semifinals of the French Open juniors and quarterfinals at the U.S. Open juniors. Lost in the last round of qualifying at the French Open. Qualified in his first career ATP Tour tournament in Lyon in 1995, up- setting No. 40 ranked Javier Frana in the first round. Enjoys playing the guitar (says it's bad though).
