Began playing tennis at age 10...Parents David and Karen are both retired...Lists his father as the most inspirational person in his life for living the American dream, coming over to the States with no money, and did well to give his kids a successful chance in this world...Has three younger sisters, twins Mindy, who plays at Penn and Ivana (19), who plays at Princeton...Youngest sister Vania (17), plays on the WTA Tour and is ranked in the Top 100...Idols growing up were Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Michael Chang...Favorite surface is hard courts and considers backhand his best shot...Speaks English and Mandarin...Played collegiately at Duke University from 2001-04 and was a four-year All-American...Coached by Eliot Teltscher (since age 12).
