  • Hits both forehand and backhand with a two-handed grip and indeed, can be considered an ambidextrous player. Has represented Switzerland in Davis Cup competition from 1980-present, teaming with Claudio Mezzadri to capture the doubles tie in 1987 vs. Bulgaria Reached his first career Grand Prix final in 1986 when he lost to Stefan Edberg in five sets at Gstaad. He improved almost 300 ranking places after he decided to take a "break" from his law studies. Coached by his brother, Roger (the two bear a striking resemblance). Finished 1983 at No. 86 on the ATP computer (only year to break top 100 at year-end). Earned a career-high $31,801 in 1987. Head coach in a club… Works also for Adidas Switzerland… Enjoys cooking, golf, sports. Played for Davis Cup team in Switzerland (with Gunthardt, Rosset, Hlasek)… Has a girlfriend for many years, no children.
