Is This The Best Fan Costume Ever?

American returns for stylish turn

Tennis fans did a double-take on Manic Monday at a walking, talking golden Wimbledon trophy at the All England Club.

Chris Fava, a Californian designer, who first came to The Championships dressed as ‘Blue Sky Guy’ in 2013, queued and slept in a tent for five days to get his prime seat on Centre Court for fourth-round singles play.

His gold-coloured suit was designed to look like the golden gilt trophy that will be presented to the men’s singles champion, including the tournament’s full roll of honour (since 1877). He’d first watched the tennis at Wimbledon last Tuesday in normal clothes.

Fava dressed in a strawberry outfit on the second Monday in 2016 – which can be found in the Wimbledon Museum – and last year as Rufus The Hawk, the bird of prey that patrols the grounds at 5am each day of The Championships. He plans to return next year with a new design.
