Roger Federer joins elite company by hitting more than 10,000 aces.

Federer Hits 10,000th Ace In Wimbledon Opener

Swiss becomes only third man since '91 to achieve the feat

The historic achievements keep coming for Roger Federer, even in areas that might not immediately come to mind when you think about the all-time great.

During his first-round match on Tuesday at The Championships, Federer surpassed the 10,000-ace mark against Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov, joining Goran Ivanisevic and Ivo Karlovic as the only three men who have hit more than 10,000 aces since 1991, when the ATP World Tour began tracking the statistic.

The milestone moment came at 4-3, 30/30, as Federer caught Dolgopolov leaning left and went out wide for a sliding ace. “It's surreal,” Federer told ESPN. “It puts me up there with the likes of Ivanisevic and Karlovic, to whom I look up to and think they have the most unbelievable serve.”

Indeed, Federer is in elite company with Karlovic and Ivanisevic, players whose ace tallies were key to their success. Federer, while not an ace machine by any means, has had his share of memorable serving days as well.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion had little trouble during the remainder of his opener, striking 10 aces for the match and advancing after 42 minutes when Dolgopolov retired after 12 games.
