Over eight days and three rounds, fans cast their votes for their favourite of eight Classic Moments from the Western & Southern Open. ‘2012: Federer Triumphs In 1-2 Final’ received 67 per cent of votes cast in the final against ‘2013: Rafa-Roger Rivalry’. It received 65 per cent of votes in Round 1 against ‘2003: Federer Saves Match Points’  and 75 per cent of votes in the quarter-finals against ‘2004: Agassi Overcomes Roddick’.

That 2012 match marked the first Cincinnati final to feature the top two seeds, and World No. 1 Federer triumphed over World No. 2 Novak Djokovic 6-0, 7-6(7) to clinch his fifth tournament title. “This was probably the best week ever here in Cincinnati for me never dropping my serve and all that stuff and beating Novak in the final,” he said at the time. “This was very sweet. No doubt about it.”

Nadal’s victory over Federer in the 2013 quarter-finals – the first time the pair had met in Cincinnati, but their 31st FedEx ATP Head2Head meeting overall, had earned its place in the final by defeating ‘2008: Nadal Clinches No. 1’ in Round 1 and ‘2011: Nadal’s Marathon Win’ in the quarter-finals.
