ATP Firsts: Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev discusses the first tennis autograph he received, the first concert he attended and his future plans for a first pet

After winning his maiden tour-level title in his first ATP World Tour event of the season at the Sydney International, Russia's Daniil Medvedev is no stranger to breaking new ground. The 22-year-old, who also entered the Top 50 of the ATP Rankings for the first time in April, recently sat down with ATPWorldTour.com to discuss some more of his first experiences on and off the court:

First pinch-me moment on the ATP World Tour
It was when I reached the final in Chennai. It was my first ATP World Tour final and in this moment I had just got into the Top 100.

First coach and most important lesson she taught me
My first coach was a Russian woman named Ekaterina Kryuchkova and she was amazing. She made me fight until the last point all the time.

First time I was recognised
I think it was in junior tournaments because, even in junior tournaments, you play Grand Slams. Some people took my autograph and they knew me.

First time I travelled abroad
The first I remember was Finland. My parents loved to go to Finland on holidays because it was quite close to Russia. I was four or five years old, I would say, and I won quite a lot of money in the amusement machines.

First concert I visited
It was a 50 Cent concert in Moscow [laughter]. Everybody in Russia was listening to him at that moment. I was around 12 years old.

First prize money purchase
Just as I broke into the Top 100... I was in Bratislava playing a Challenger. I went to Austria which was about 100 kilometres away to one of the biggest outlets and I just bought myself some new clothes.

First autograph I asked for
When I was really young, the woman I practised with also practised with Vera Zvonareva. One time [Vera] came to visit her and give the kids some advice. I got her autograph on a tennis ball.

First time I flew first class
When I was young, we went to Croatia on a holiday and my father, I don't know why, just decided to spend a lot of money. We all flew first class on this holiday and I was about eight years old.

First pet
I have never had a pet. But it will definitely be a dog... as soon as I settle down.
